A color chip in the store is lit by bright, cool light. At home the same color shifts with the direction your windows face, the time of day, and what is next to it. North light cools colors down; warm afternoon sun through west windows pushes them yellow. Flooring, countertops, and cabinets all reflect onto the walls.
That is why we look at colors in your rooms, against your fixed finishes, rather than picking from a fan deck in isolation.
We start with what is staying: floors, stone, tile, cabinetry, and large furniture. Those set the undertones your wall color has to work with. From there we pull a short list, look at larger samples on the actual walls, and check them in morning and evening light.
We also plan the whole house, not one room at a time, so colors flow from space to space and trim and ceilings are consistent throughout.
Outside, color has to work with the roof, brick or stone, and the neighborhood. Strong sun washes colors out, so exterior colors usually need to be a step deeper than they look on a chip. If your neighborhood has an HOA, we can help you choose within the approved palette and prepare what you need for approval.

Most homes look best with a small, related palette: a main wall color, one or two supporting colors, and a consistent trim and ceiling color throughout.
It depends on your walls and fixed finishes. Whites have undertones, and the right one is the one that does not fight your flooring, counters, or wall color.
