We work out how the existing pattern was made.
Repairs are taped, mudded, and sanded flat.
The pattern is dialed in on a sample before going on the wall.
Texture is applied and feathered into the surrounding wall.
The area is primed and painted so the repair disappears.
Most Texas homes have orange peel or knockdown texture on the walls. Orange peel is a fine, sprayed spatter; knockdown is a heavier spatter flattened with a trowel for a mottled look. Older homes may have hand-troweled finishes or acoustic popcorn ceilings.
Each one is made differently, and the pattern depends on the mix, the tool, and the timing. That is why a patch done with the wrong method stands out even after it is painted.
A repair is only invisible if the new texture matches the density, size, and flatness of what surrounds it. We test the pattern on a board first, feather the new texture out past the edges of the repair, and prime before painting so the patch does not flash through the finish coat.
Smoothing a wall, going from heavy texture to a flat finish, is also possible. It takes skim coats and sanding rather than spraying, and it leaves a clean, modern look.
Small repairs are priced by the patch; whole rooms and new drywall are priced by the area. Ceilings take longer than walls, and smoothing a textured wall takes more labor than adding texture. Painting afterward is normally part of the same job so the finish is uniform.

Popcorn ceilings can often be removed and refinished. Older ceilings may need testing before they are disturbed, so we look at the age and condition first.
Yes. The wall is skim-coated and sanded to a flat finish, then primed and painted. It is more labor than texturing, and the result is a clean, modern wall.
Usually because the texture does not match or the patch was not primed. Both make the repair reflect light differently from the wall around it.
